Cool-season, fine-textured, fast-growing native bunchgrass. Acts as a biennial or short-lived perennial. Useful nurse crop for slower establishing species along waterways, ditches, streambanks, coastal prairies and moist forests, but also occurs in drier habitats, from sea level to alpine zones. Fair to good palatability for livestock and wildlife.
