L&H Seeds, Inc. is owned and operated by the Herrman family who have farmed as Herrman Northwest, Inc. in the Columbia Basin of eastern Washington since 1957. In the early 1970's the Herrman's diversified from potatoes to vegetable seed production then to native grass seed production. L&H Seeds, Inc. was created in 1987 by Paul & Cindy Herrman, and Robert Leinwebber, Cindy's father to market the seed products from their respective farms. L&H Seeds, Inc. and Herrman Northwest, Inc. are unique in the native seed industry in that they are vertically integrated, producing, processing, and marketing their own seed. This allows them complete quality control and greatly improved efficiency. They employ a full time team of 17 talented individuals, and 20 part time and seasonal staff, who are vital in the operation of their business. They currently produce over 40 different types of native seed crops on approximately 1,000 acres of irrigated farmland. L&H Seeds also markets the production of a few selected growers in the Columbia Basin for additional diversity. Since the mid 80's they have become one of the Bureau of Land Management's largest suppliers of seed, also supplying seed to the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, The Nature Conservancy, the Federal Highway Administration, as well as many state agencies and customers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, and California.
